Five out of the seven counties in northeastern Minnesota were ranked among the top 25 most productive counties in Minnesota according to a study conducted by the Center for Economic Development at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
According to the Minnesota State Planning Agency, northeastern Minnesota's turnover ratio is significantly lower than any other region in Minnesota or nation.
Overall attitudes, basic skills and trainability of workforce here are second to none according to Paragon Decision Resources, Inc.
Despite a perception of heavy unionization, northeastern Minnesota's workforce is just 17% organized - the same as the rest of the State average, and furthermore, 96% of unionized firms report satisfactory to highly successful relationships with their unions according to a survey conducted by the Center for Economic Development at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Northeastern Minnesotan's are well educated:
- 91% with high school education or above
- 17% with Bachelors Degree
- 50% Professional Certificate or License
Skilled workers are more readily available in northeastern Minnesota as compared to the rest of the State according to a Manufacturers' Workforce Study conducted by the Center for Economic Development at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Employers are more satisfied with the technical skills of their current skilled workers in northeastern Minnesota as compared to the metro area and the State in General. 73.9% of employers were satisfied with the technical skills of northern Minnesota compared to 57.5% metro and 65.4% statewide.
